Devin Haney insists he is excited about the prospect of Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield returning to the ring, as long as they resist the temptation to fight any present day stars of the heavyweight division.

Iron Mike teased his potential comeback last month and has subsequently released several videos which suggest he remains in supreme physical condition and still possesses some of the trademark ferocity which made him such a fearsome opponent during his prime.

Holyfield, who fought Tyson twice during his heyday, appears intent on following suit and would consider a third meeting with his old rival but would insist upon certain conditions and rules.

The boxing world has been split over whether the two legends potentially returning would be good for the sport, but unbeaten American prospect Haney would love to see his two compatriots lock horns again.

He told iFL TV: ‘I see something too about Shannon Briggs being in the mix
I mean of course I’m going to watch it I want to see you know how Mike is going to be after all these years. So I’m gladly watching. I’m for it.

‘If it was Mike or Evander fighting a young guy who was on the come up or in his prime then I would say no I don’t want to see that. But the fact these guys are way past their prime, they are in the same era then I’m here for it.’

Haney, himself, caused a stir this week when it emerged he had been training under the watchful eye of Floyd Mayweather, who himself is rumoured to be contemplating making a comeback.

Asked what he had learned from the 43-year-old, he said: ‘It’s been going on for a couple of days now. The first day we worked out it was all over Instagram and stuff like that.

‘I mean me and Floyd have talked on numerous occasions. As you saw there’s numerous videos of me and him working in the gym showing me different tips. So we finally got in a real training session and it went well.

‘As of now we haven’t spoken on anything, anything long-term but you know whenever Floyd can give me tips and work with me he always does so I have to thank him for that.

‘Floyd knows so much of the game. He’s accomplished so much he’s been in the game for so long. He became world champion the year that I was born so there’s so much that he can teach me and I learned so much.

‘I definitely feel like it was destiny. I’ve worked with Jeff Mayweather, Floyd Snr, Roger and now Flyod Jnr so it was definitely destiny and I’m very thankful for this. It’s still unbelievable to me.’
