Man Utd boss Solskjaer told to strengthen two positions if Pogba stays by Jonathan Greening – EXCLUSIVE

Manchester United must prioritise signing a new striker and centre-back this summer if Paul Pogba stays at the club, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s former team-mate Jonathan Greening.

Greening, who also enjoyed spells with Middlesbrough and West Brom, has been impressed by Solskjaer’s work in the transfer market and believes Bruno Fernandes has been a ‘terrific signing’.

He’s convinced that Pogba and Fernandes will ‘bounce off each other really well’ if the Frenchman decides to commit his future to Manchester United.

While he has been similarly impressed with Odion Ighalo – who has been offered a £400,000-a-week deal to reject a permanent move to Old Trafford in favour of staying in the Chinese Super League – he still believes another striker should be added to the squad ahead of next season.

And Greening thinks a ‘world class’ centre-half should be signed to partner Harry Maguire at the back.

‘The signings from Ole and Manchester United have been very, very good, they have been on a really good streak at the moment,’ Greening told Metro.co.uk on behalf of the Grand National.

‘Bruno Fernandes, I watched him on his debut against Wolves; I was doing the radio and he was brilliant. He was composed on the ball and commanding the midfield, he really has been a terrific signing.

‘Ole’s even said he’s been brilliant around the training ground; he’s got everybody’s positivity up and everybody wants to play with him.

‘He definitely needs to sign another striker – I know Ighalo’s come in and done really well, there were lot of doubts about the him, but he’s been fantastic. They need a main striker, a proper goal scorer, and someone with a bit of experience that Rashford can learn off, that’s a bigger area they can really improve on.

‘They need to sort out the Paul Pogba situation, because he’s such a good player, and when he’s on his game he’s unreal. I’d like to see him back fit playing with Bruno Fernandes, leaving Scott McTominay or Fred sitting in. Let those two play together, and they’ll bounce off each other really well.

‘United definitely need a striker though, and another centre half would be ideal. [Victor] Lindelof and [Eric] Bailly are good, but I wouldn’t say they were world class. So maybe another centre half to play alongside Harry Maguire, and then they’ve got one hell of a good team.’
